The service

WritingPromptGenerator.org is a free browser application that assembles writing prompts from curated local components using deterministic rules. It requires no account and no payment. Using the site means you accept these terms and the Privacy Policy.

Who owns the prompts you generate

We claim no ownership of the prompts you generate or of anything you write from them. Use them for personal writing, publication, teaching, workshops, or commercial work, with no attribution required and no licence fee.

Two honest caveats. First, prompts are assembled from a shared component library, so two people using the same settings and seed will get the same prompt—generated text is not exclusive to you. Second, in many jurisdictions short machine-assembled phrases attract thin or no copyright protection. Your own writing is yours; the prompt line that started it may not be protectable.

Acceptable use

Do not use the service to:

• break the law or facilitate someone else doing so;
• produce sexual content involving minors, or material that exploits or endangers children;
• obtain actionable instructions for causing physical, financial, or psychological harm;
• create targeted harassment of a real, identifiable person;
• run automated abuse that degrades availability for other people.

The tool includes local filters for required and custom inputs, and stricter vocabulary and topic handling when a young audience is selected. These filters are compact and local. They reduce obvious misuse; they are not a substitute for comprehensive moderation or for your own judgement, and we do not claim otherwise.

Generated material

Prompts may be imperfect, repetitive, unsuitable for a particular class or reader, or coincidentally similar to an existing work. Review and adapt every prompt before you assign, publish, or build on it. Fiction prompts describe conflict and pressure by design; that is the point of a prompt, and it is not advice, endorsement, or instruction.

Your data and backups

Your library and drafts live in your browser’s storage. We cannot recover them, because we never receive them. Browser updates, storage limits, private browsing, and clearing site data can all remove local records. Exporting work you care about is your responsibility, and the tool provides TXT, Markdown, PDF, print, handout, and bulk library export for exactly that.

Availability and warranty

The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. There is no guarantee that every prompt, export, browser feature, or local record will always work or always be available, and features may change or be withdrawn.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for lost work, lost data, or lost profits arising from use of this free service. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, and some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

Changes

These terms may be updated; material changes will carry a new effective date on this page. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
